LIBROSAURUS

Because books are more fun when you read them together.

BrandProduct conceptUX/UIVibe

Librosaurus is a book club app for sharing the whole reading experience. Not just what you thought when you reached the last page.

Follow each other’s progress, capture your opinions along the way and eventually see the story of how a book made you feel from beginning to end.

Oh, and there are dinosaurs.

A book club app
The start

Our book club needed a better system.

We already have a book club.

We also have notes about books scattered across our phones, conversations about chapters someone else hasn’t reached yet and the occasional:

“Wait. How far are you?”

So we started thinking about what we’d actually want from a digital book club.

One place for the books we’re reading.

One place for all those thoughts we have along the way.

And a way to know when everyone has finally reached that chapter so we can talk about it without ruining anything.

That’s where Librosaurus started.

Made for a real book club
The reading curve

Don’t just rate the ending.

Most ratings happen once a book is over. But that’s not really how we experience stories. Maybe the first few chapters were incredible. Then things slowed down. Then chapter 27 happened. Then you stayed up until 2 AM because there was absolutely no way you were going to sleep without knowing how it ended.

Librosaurus is being designed around capturing those reactions while you’re reading.

Instead of only ending with a single rating, those moments can form a curve showing how the reading experience changed throughout the book.

Because a 4-star book can have a much more interesting story than 4 stars.

Progress

Are you there yet ?

Reading together gets complicated when everyone reads at a different speed.

Librosaurus will let book club members see how far their fellow readers have progressed without having to constantly ask.

Reach an agreed milestone and the others can know you’ve made it there too.

Now you can finally talk about the thing.

No spoilers required.

This makes progress part of the shared reading experience instead of something everyone keeps separately.

Book club / reading progress
The name

Apparently, books needed dinosaurs.

There wasn’t an extensive strategic reason behind the name.

We like books.

We like dinosaurs.

Libro + saurus.

The identity follows the same logic: cute, playful and modern, with pink and purple, books and dinosaurs living happily in the same world.

Because reading apps don’t have to look terribly serious just because books sometimes are.

Brand
Genres

One genre. One Librosaurus.

The dinosaur part isn’t stopping at the logo.

We’re imagining different Librosauruses for different genres, each with its own personality.

Fantasy

Fantasy can have its dinosaur.

Romance

Romance can have its dinosaur.

Crime

Crime can have its dinosaur.

And eventually, all that reading might help you build something of your own.

A Dino Park where reading, challenges and rewards bring the Librosaurus world to life.

Maybe you’ll even have to finish a reading challenge before a meteorite arrives.

You know. Normal book club things.

My Library

Your books deserve somewhere to live too.

Librosaurus isn’t only about the book you’re currently reading.

My Library is planned as a place to keep track of the books you already own, so the next time you’re standing in a bookstore wondering:

“Wait... do I have this one?”

you can actually check.

Alongside it, Librosaurus is being designed around:

My Book Clubs

The groups you read with.

My Readings

Your current and past reading experiences.

My Library

The books that already live on your shelves.

My Readers

The people you like reading with.

All in one increasingly dinosaur-filled  place.

Data

Cute data is still data.

The playful side of Librosaurus is only half the idea.

Over time, those reading curves could tell a much bigger story.

Not just:

Did readers like this book?

But:

Where did they love it?

Where did their interest drop?

    Did the opening work?

        Did the middle drag?

Did the ending make everything worth it?

With enough reading data, those patterns could eventually become useful not only to readers, but also to authors, editors and publishers trying to understand how books are actually experienced.

A cute reading app on the outside.

Some surprisingly interesting information underneath.

What we’re working  on.

Naming

Combining our entirely reasonable love of books with our equally reasonable love of dinosaurs.

Logo & visual identity

Creating a playful pink-and-purple world where books and dinosaurs naturally belong together.

Product concept

Designing a different kind of digital book club around shared progress and reactions throughout the reading experience.

UX/UI

Currently shaping how libraries, readings, book clubs, progress, ratings and fellow readers will work together.

Testing

Testing the ideas and flows as the product takes shape.

VIBE

Taking Librosaurus from concept and design to a working product.

Still hatching.

Librosaurus is currently being built.

The brand is here. The product is taking shape. And there are significantly more dinosaurs to come.
